Christadelphians Together and the listening process have not yet launched. For more information, seeĀ Contact.
The world is changing, and it is changing very quickly. As recently as 1982, male same-sex relationships were illegal in parts of the UK. When civil partnerships were introduced in 2005, they were seen as extreme. By the time same-sex marriage was introduced in 2014, just nine years later, civil partnerships were seen as old-fashioned and archaic. In less than a lifetime lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender (LGBT) people have moved from being almost completely hidden to living their lives with the same openness as straight people.
Many Christadelphians are, understandably, overwhelmed by these changes.
I am not sure that we, as a community, are sufficiently prepared to deal with the seemingly overwhelming change in the attitude of the public which is now happy to embrace LGBT as acceptable and even celebrate it. I certainly feel unprepared.
A letter to The Christadelphian, May 2019
Christadelphians in general, and LGBT Christadelphians in particular, need support when facing LGBT issues. That support must be informed by the reality of LGBT Christadelphian lives, and it must have a firm basis in Biblical teaching, and in our shared Christadelphian faith.
In this area, emotions often run high, and we must be extraordinarily careful not to allow the standards of the world to influence us, and we must also remember that the worldly standards of the past were still worldly standards, even if we feel they were Biblical.
Christadelphians Together is an LGBT Christadelphian working group. The aims of Christadelphians Together are to:
- support LGBT Christadelphians;
- support the friends and families of LGBT Christadelphians; and
- support the wider Christadelphian community when dealing with LGBT issues.
For more information, see our charter.
The listening process
The first stage of our work will be the listening process: we will listen to the stories of LGBT Christadelphians, their friends, families, and ecclesias, in order to produce a report that will help the whole Christadelphian community support everyone affected by LGBT-related issues.
